History

Willis & Bowring have been established in the Sutherland Shire since 1960 celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010. Today the firm has 4 partners, 7 employed Solicitors and 35 support staff making it one of the largest firms in the St George and Sutherland Shire region. We also have Management staff working in the areas of Administration, Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology.

Continuing Legal Education

In 1987 the Law Society of New South Wales created the scheme of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education [MCLE] for all solicitors seeking to renew a New South Wales practising certificate. The scheme requires Solicitors to remain current with issues of law and legal practice by completing at least ten MCLE units of formal continuing legal education each year.

“Though the MCLE scheme the Society recognises certain activities as constituting formal continuing education (for example, seminars and workshops). However, the Society encourages its members to undertake a wide range of formal and informal activities and to regard formal education and the acquisitions of ten MCLE units each year is only a minimum requirement.” [The Law Society of New South Wales “Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Rules” April 1998]

Accredited Specialists

The Law Society of NSW’s Specialist Accreditation Program identifies, monitors and registers solicitors specialising in different areas of law.

Only those solicitors who pass the Law Society’s exacting tests can use the Specialist Accreditation logo. Each Accredited Specialist solicitor must have:

• At least five years full time practice
• At least three years specialty work
• Passed rigorous exams in communication, problem solving, client service and, of course, the law.

Willis & Bowring have solicitors with Specialist Accreditation in Criminal Law, Wills & Deceased Estates and Family Law. Look for the Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation logo.

Technology

Willis & Bowring are committed to providing all of our clients with the best possible service as well as providing the most efficient medium for that service. Our Information Technology Manager assists with implementing, maintaining and keeping us on track with the latest technology. All partners, professionals and staff have computers on their desks with access to the internet and electronic mail facilities.
